North End Community Circle
NECC is a group of people seeking to promote and activate helpful relationships, celebrating strengths and resources to address needs in collaboration with families, residents and stakeholders in the North End of Halifax.
A good question to begin with: What is the North End? There are lots of different answers to this! Just for now, we have kept the boundaries of the NECC small (area between Russell, Robie, Barrington and Northridge Streets) but that may expand as we build our relationships and understand ourselves better. We are supported by a lot of people, including Community Justice Society of Halifax who invests its resources and ongoing support to this project. We meet on the third wednesday of each month. The task of chairing the meeting, taking minutes, and circulating them is shared among members. We also like to hold meetings in different places, like a rotating forum in the community. Everyone is welcome to attend and share their views on what matters to them.
The Empathy Factory empowers children to take action and make to the world a better place. Their leadership inspires and challenges youth to tap into their empathy and create social change. Children are often ‘accused’ of having unabashed optimism, but this is exactly what they try to promote. The Empathy Factory was founded on the belief that by instilling empathy in our youth, injustices will be stopped, communities transformed and hope inspired.
